Pups had their first round of vaccinations earlier this week and will be turning 7 weeks old tomorrow. They will be needing their second round of shots when they go home in a couple weeks. So go ahead and make those appointments for sometime between July 2nd and 4th. They will need to see a veterinarian anyway within 3 days to make sure you are covered under our Health Guarantee.
So far they have been introduced to the leash, a little water the kiddie pool, and the crate. This week we plan to fill the pool up enough to let them try swimming! Here's a few shots of them in our home learning to come when called and to fetch. Most all of the pups will have to work more on come when called but here are a few pictures to highlight what each one did for this activity.
(By the way, this early training I just teach them that when they come to me they get a snack. A snack is just a piece of their normal food. They don't need special treats to learn. Also make sure they have full bellies so they don't have to concentrate of feeding)
Eli wasn't that interested in chasing the ball. He is our explorer pup. He was sniffing around seeing what new territory he could discover! I didn't get as many pictures of him simply because he was everywhere! These pictures are just him watching the ball roll away. Then when it would stop he'd swiftly turn and find something else that looked interesting.
Macie wasn't that interested in the ball either she did the same thing Jack-Jack did, just watch it till it stopped then began running all around the house. Till she found one of my girls new toy puppies. Nothing else was interesting after that! Not even food.
Jack-Jack did the same thing that Macie and Eli did with the ball. But you probably won't have much trouble getting him to come when called! I use a piece of their regular food to do this and make sure that they have full bellies before trying to train them to come. He just seemed to want the food most of the time! Then he discovered our 4 month old foster baby and wanted to climb up in his bouncy seat with him and his toys.
Fetch may be Zane's middle name! His siblings may have more training to do as far as Fetch goes. But Zane chased the ball all around pushing it with his little paws, then got it still enough to wrap his little snout around it and brought it right back to me! He did this several times.
