3 Weeks Old and Beginning to Play

They are at the perfect stage for cuddles as well as getting used to be handled... as in handled for routines like nail clipping.  We're hoping this makes these these practices more tolerable when they come home to live with you.  

Pups are also now walking and interacting with one another more.  Though soon this will make getting those photos much trickier.  Today they're still a bit cautious when we take them away from their littermates.   You'll notice some pups stayed crouched down low as they investigated this new environment more timidly, while others got up on all fours more quickly.

Two Weeks old today - Opening eyes and learning to walk

My favorite stage of puppy growth is always whatever one we're in.  

This week most have doubled in size, have had their first nail trimming, some are starting to be able to balance on all four paws for short amounts of time, and most have opened their eyes.   

Fun fact: Unlike humans who primarily approach the world with their sense of sight, dogs first approach the world with their sense of smell.  Though they can't see when momma Heidi comes into their space, they simply sniff out one of her teats to plug onto.  

This week we also begin to take note of their behaviors and eventually will be able to notice some overall  temperaments in each up.  For now though let me introduce them individually...

Ladies first!

She knew how to pose just right and was very tolerant of being in this basket away from the others.  She stayed calm and just looked around at her surroundings which made it easy to get so many good pics. 

They're here and almost 1 Week Old!

Introducing ...

Alfalfa, Buckwheat, Spanky, Porky, Uh-huh, Froggy, Waldo, Jane, AJ & Darla.  

Thanks to our kids (17, 15, & 11 yrs old) who helped with their kennel names so that you can get better acquainted over the next few weeks.  

That's TEN Little Rascals, seven boys (1 black & 6 yellow) and three girls (2 black & 1 yellow).  

Pups are six days old and still fit in the palm of our hand.   Come back for more pictures next week and we'll try to get some more individual pictures.

Twelve hours old...

A New Generation

Our Heidi girl is now ready to bring more love into the world and her pups are due next week! 

Though we've bred just 7 litters in the last 13 years, we've only ever done so with our own dogs.   Last summer our Choco passed on and we've been heartbroken to say goodbye.  

For this next generation, we've chosen Miles from good friends we've known for years who've been breeding for many more years than us
